| The staff at Fired Up is experienced in helping your troop earn their artist badge. Cost per child is $14, which includes instruction, one pound of clay, glazing and firing. Small troops (under 6 children) can be accommodated during regular business hours with a reservation. Large troops over 6 children should arrange for a special time to meet. We can accommodate up to 18 children in one session. Time to meet is usually one to two hours, depending upon troop business needs (some troops have a short meeting beforehand), and if a tour of the kiln room and glazing area is needed. PROJECTS Fired up has a variety of projects that we know work for a group of mixed abilities. If the kids want to paint, they can pick a $16 or less piece, with the cost per child of $14. SUPERVISION We ask that the troop have one parent or other adult for every three to four children. This helps the troop stay on time, and keeps everyone finishing at about the same time. Troops should allow one hour if only making the clay project, and add a half hour each for the business meeting or tour. GLAZING There are two options for finishing the piece (with no additional cost). Troops should make this decision before class time. The first option requires no return trip for the troop. Each child comes in to glaze their piece. A disadvantage is that the children can not see how other projects turn out. The second and preferable option is that the troop returns to glaze. Children who miss the first meeting can make a clay project while the rest of the troop glazes. Depending upon needs, we can also cover other requirements of the badge at this time. Depending upon your location in Madison, Mapquest gives "back road" directions, and some people have missed a critical turn.
